| WALKING TRAILS
The West Plains Parks and Recreation Department
maintains a total of three walking trails, which are located throughout
West Plains in varying residential areas. A total of 18,460 feet
comprise the three trails.
Gallaway Park
Georgia White Walking Park
The Georgia White Walking Park is accessible
24 hours a day and consists of 1,356 asphalt feet of walking surface.
Benches and picnic tables are periodically located throughout the oval
shaped track. At the current time distance markers have yet to be
installed. Adequate parking is provided for park patrons.
Green Belt Walking Trails
The Green Belt Walking trails, which are located
in two separate areas of town consist of 15,464 feet of asphalt walking
surface. The portion adjoining the Georgia White Walking Park utilizes
7,600 feet while the trail adjoining the Evans Softball Complex utilizes
7,864. Lighting is not provided on this trail; therefore, is only
accessible to the general public from daylight until dusk. In contrast
to the other trails, the Green Belt Walking Trails run cross-country with
no continuous shape. In addition, distance markers have not been
placed around this trail either.
People's Park Trail
People’s Park Trail is the newest addition of walking structures
created by the Parks and Recreation Department. The People’s Park
Trail circles the Aquatic Park and consists of 1,640 feet of asphalt and
concrete walking paths. Because lighting is provided at the People’s
Park trail, individuals can walk this oval shaped trail 24 hours per day.
Distance markers are not installed at People’s Park. Benches are
located at random intervals along the trail for periods of rest.
Please note that a short-term goal for the Parks and Recreation Department
is the installation of distance markers along each Parks and Recreation
maintained walking trail.
