Public Meeting Room

Community room available for meetings & exhibits for a fee. The room is equipped with a TV/VCR and Video Conferencing capabilities. Applications available at circulation desk. Children's Story Hour room available to groups of children and young adults only during library hours. Applications available at Children's Reference Desk.

Children's Programs

Preschool "Story Time" for ages 2 - 6
10:30 to 11:00 Thursdays, September 7, 2007 thru May 10, 2008.

Saturday Story Time for ages 2-6 is from
10:30-11:00 on Saturdays, September 8, 2007 thru May 10, 2008.

All programs are free and open to the public. You do not need a library card to attend. No registration except for daycares, preschools and other groups. Children 7 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Drive-up Book Drop

Two drive-up book returns on the east side of our building (Pennsylvania Ave.) make returning library materials easy. Drops are available 24 hours per day.

Friends of the Library

The purpose of the FOL is to maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries; to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and needs; to stimulate gifts of books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments, and bequests; to support and cooperate with the library services and facilities for the community.

Membership in FOL is open to all individuals in sympathy with its purpose. Annual dues are $5.00. Regular meetings will be held at the West Plains Public Library. Meetings are bi-monthly on the first Monday of the month at 5:30 PM excluding holidays.

Genealogy Room

The library has a separate area for genealogy which includes the collection of the South Central Missouri Genealogy Society. Microfilm reader/printers are available. Research is available on a per hour fee basis plus any copying fees and postage.

Internet Access

The library has 36 computers with public access to the internet.

Basic computer classes are offered free to the public on a monthly basis. Call or come by the Library for information.

Reading Room

Comfortable chairs and tables with reading lamps furnish this reading area. Our policy is "Quiet Only" in this room.

Study Room

A quiet room with a table and chairs, suitable for tutoring or 2-4 people studying together. A typewriter is available in this room.

Summer Reading Program and Teen Activities

All activities are free and there is no registration fee!

"Cath the Reading Bug" is the theme for this Summer's Reading Activities!

Ages 2 to 5 will meet on Thursdays
10:30 to 11:00 June 5 through July 24

Ages 6 to 9 will meet on Tuesdays
4:00 to 5:00 p.m. June 3 through July 24

The theme for teen activities is "Metamorphosis @ Your Library!"
Ages 10-16 will meet on Thursdays
4:00 to 5:00 p.m. June 5 through July 26
Earn prizes for reading! Reading logs available June 2-Aug 2

Ronald McDonald will entertain preschoolers on August 5 at 10:30 am. in the Community Room. Groups must register.

A Scholastic Book Fair will be held June 23 - 27 in the Community Room.

"Bugscope" get a close look at bugs through an internet microscope and live interaction with scientists from the University of Illinois July 14 at 2:00 .m. for ages 9 and older. Register at the Library

Videos

We offer adult and children's videos for a two-day check out period. Collection emphasis is on educational content. Patrons must have a valid library card to check out materials.

Fees to Participant: Two-day check out is .25 per video
