City of West Plains Transit

Service Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 P.M.

Holidays that City of West Plains Transit has no service available is listed as follows: New Year Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day plus the day following, and Christmas Day.

Any person with disabilities may have a companion or care attendant ride with them who will be allowed to ride at no cost.

Senior citizens and persons with disabilities can obtain a limited amount of 10 ride passes at the Senior Center at 416 East Main Street. Donations are appreciated but not required.  The Division of Aging reimburses the City of West Plains Transit for the trips provided.  The Senior Center determines eligibility for the passes according to Area Agency on Aging guidelines.

Transit Fares: Fares are $1.50 per person.

1 -10 ride passes are available from City Hall at 1910 Holiday Lane and West Plains Main Bank at #11 Court Square.

The City of West Plains Transit operates under local, state, and federal regulations. The transit system is open to anyone, regardless of age, income, disability, race, gender, religion, or national origin.

The City of West Plains Transit System operates one bus on four deviated fixed routes and two vehicles provide demand response curb to curb service. Any rider can request the route bus deviate up to three quarters of a mile for boarding and deboarding or request the demand response service. The deviated fixed route and the demand response service operate the same days and hours. Route deviation requests and demand response service require a 24-hour advance reservation. Call 256-1241 or 293-0921. Monday’s deviated fixed route and demand response service has to be scheduled on Friday by 4 P.M.

West Plains Transit System has some other rules:

1.       Fare must be paid upon boarding the bus.

2.       No open containers on the bus are allowed.

3.       Riders presenting a danger to the driver and/or other passengers will not be allowed to board or will be asked to deboard at the next stop.

4.       No fighting is permitted.

5.       Shoes and shirts must be worn. Riders are asked to wear street apparel.

6.       No eating or drinking is permitted on the bus.

7.       Service animals are welcomed; they must be under the control of their owner at all times. All pets must be in carriers.

8.       The bus driver has been trained to manage emergency situations. Obey the driver’s directions to ensure your safety.

9.       All necessary medical equipment is allowed but must be capable of being secured.

10.   On shopping trips riders are limited to merchandise they can carry and load themselves.

The City of West Plains receives funding under Federal Transit Administration, Section 5311 non-urban public transportation program and complies with all state, federal, and local regulations.

City of West Plains Transit Rider Complaint Procedure

The city of West Plains Transit believes every rider is entitled to express any concerns, whether positive or negative, about the service he/she has received.  To ensure that all riders receive quality transportation, the City of West Plains Transit has established the following procedure concerning complaints and grievances.

 

Complaints involving violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 the Equal Employment Opportunity Act or the Americans with Disabilities Act are included in this policy.

1.       All riders will be given a copy of this grievance policy.

2.       Each vehicle will have an interior sign stating that a copy of this policy may be obtained by calling 417-256-1241.

3.       Complaints must be made in writing and state the following information:

          A.       Date of occurrence;

          B.       Time of occurrence;

          C.       Location;

          D.       Employee involved ; and

          E.        Nature of the complaint.

Anyone who needs assistance in filing a complaint may contact the City Administrator’s office at 256-1241, Complaints received by telephone will be documented but no action will be taken until the complainant signs the complaint. The complainant may either visit City Hall or request the document be mailed to them.

Complaints received anonymously, will be documented but no action will be taken unless a written complaint is also received.  The City of West Plains Transit will use all complaints as a source for training drivers and other employees in customer service.

4.       Complaints will be resolved at the lowest possible level. Initial complaints should be mailed to:

5.       Upon receipt of a complaint, the transit manager will gather evidence about the complaint and document all findings. Every effort will be made to resolve the complaint within 30 days of receipt.

6.       If the rider is not satisfied with the decision, he/she must then ask that the next highest level of authority consider the complaint and issue an opinion.
